UN Secretary-General Thanks 2022 ASEAN Chair for Its Efforts

PHNOM PENH: While UN Secretary-General António Guterres is in Cambodia to attend the ASEAN Summit, he posted a message on his Twitter account on Friday night, 11 November, thanking Cambodia for its efforts as the 2022 ASEAN Chair as the world currently faces serious global challenges.

"I thank Cambodia as the chair of ASEAN for its important efforts at this time of serious global challenges," said the UN Secretary-General.

He stressed that there is a need to strengthen collective action to find multilateral solutions and get the global goals back on track. He added that regional organizations play a vital role in helping solve both regional and global problems.

At this year’s ASEAN Summit hosted by Cambodia, there are many regional and global issues that need to be discussed and addressed. The biggest and most pressing concerns are the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and the ongoing political crisis in Myanmar.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Cambodia on Friday afternoon to attend the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits, the ASEAN-US Special Summit and other related Summits.
